The session

How well do you understand the machine in your head and how effective are you in getting it to work optimally? Our mind is a remarkable machine that represents both our greatest asset and our biggest liability in life.  Through insight and skill, we can learn how to manage the machine (our mind) effectively, and ultimately be the leader we want to be: making better decisions, achieving goals more effectively, improving resilience and reducing stress for the teams we lead.

This is a highly interactive day focusing on gaining insight and awareness into ourselves and our impact on our teams. We will develop the skills to understand and manage our emotions to become a better leader. Using the fundamentals of the Chimp Model from Professor Steve Peters’ book The Chimp Paradox, delegates will learn tools and techniques to be implemented in everyday situations, drawing on leadership lessons from sport, business, education & health.

Aims of the course:

  • Learn the neuroscience behind why we behave the way we do
  • Gain insight into our own emotional tendencies and preferences
  • Learn techniques for managing unhelpful emotional states and transforming them into more resourceful states to achieve better outcomes
  • Understand how our values and beliefs influence the way we think, feel and behave
  • Apply new insight to our interactions with team members
  • Understand our impact on the behaviours and emotions of others
  • Understand motivation versus commitment in achieving team goals
  • Create a foundation of stability and security to allow our leadership to flourish

Who should attend:

Middle and Senior Managers: anyone who currently leads a team or who wants to take the next step in leadership and is faced with:

  • delivering service excellence with reduced resources
  • managing expectations in times of change
  • maintaining a strong sense of team-belonging
  • maintaining emotional management when under pressure
  • recognising one's own 'threshold' and how to avoid crossing it
