Welsh Bros was formed as a small family butcher in 1964 by George Welsh in Birchgrove, Cardiff. The shop was well supported by the local residents. Within a few years the business expanded and another shop was opened nearby.The business started to diversify into catering for restaurants and pubs. This diversification was expanded further, with the catering side of the business relocating to Rumney, Cardiff. Over the next 2-4 years, the company was awarded its first local authority contract for Cardiff. This contract was specifically for School and Care Home deliveries.
In 1993, the Cardiff unit became too small, and the business relocated to Newport. In 2006, another unit was purchased in Newport, which was formerly a full boning plant designed for carcases processing. Production was started from the new unit in late 2006. The two Newport units were merged and all production moved to the one site in Aug 2009. Shortly after Geoege Welsh Required and the remaining directors purchased the business.
Today, we supply several local authorities, as well as, many Hotels, Restaurants, canteens in our delivery area, which has expanded to cover the whole of South Wales, The West of England, and parts of the West Midlands.
In 2016 / 2017, Welsh Bros Foods set up its own bacon slicing and packing operation to meet individual customer needs. Furthermore we also now debone pour own chicken using Red Tractor farm assured Chicken.
