New research from Meatless Farm reveals more than 9 in 10 (94%) Brits are no longer taking part regularly in Meatless Mondays - a previously popular day where people do not eat meat - and are instead going meatless on a Friday.
Over half (53%) say Monday is the busiest day of the week and don't want to try something new on this day whilst one in five (19%) Brits get the Monday blues so prefer to eat what they like on this day.
The research of 2,000 UK adults revealed half (49%) prefer to go meatless on a Friday than a Monday and feel more inspired to cook something different on Fridays. Particularly, as almost half of Brits (46%) admit to now staying in on a Friday to cook instead of going out due to the rising cost of living.
"It seems the cost-of-living crisis is not just impacting what we eat but when," says Morten Toft-Bech, founder and CEO of Meatless Farm. "With more people staying in instead of going out on Friday night, there's been a shift in Brits cooking more meatless meals on a Friday and wanting to try new things as they head into the weekend instead of a Monday. So, move over Meatless Monday, it's all about Flex it Friday!"
Top 10 dishes people are making meatless - in ascending order - are: fried chicken, toad in the hole, chicken tikka masala, meat ravioli, cottage pie, beef burger, chilli con carne, spaghetti and meatballs, spaghetti Bolognese, and - in at the top spot - lasagne.
