Overview

The Meal Analyser solution is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and Impact Measurement Ltd. The University of Edinburgh has an international reputation for research excellence in carbon measurement and accounting in agrifood systems. Impact Measurement Ltd has more than 20 years’ experience in supplying software solutions for the measurement of public value. The Meal Analyser therefore offers a strong combination of scientific expertise, data management capabilities and customer service experience in a carbon calculator solution for caterers.

This enables us to offer a range of services from carbon analysis of individual dishes to complete catering services, with multiple outlets. By including Scope 1 and 2 emissions data and waste management practices we calculate valid whole service emissions.

Using this benchmark, we can identify hotspots, set carbon reduction pathways and show you where and how you can achieve continual improvement. You can monitor and document these changes, while also seeing how your emissions compare with other services. This means that you can demonstrate how you are contributing to your wider organisational carbon reduction plans.

The calculation methodology underpinning our solution draws directly from our own EU funded research into carbon emissions in public catering services. Subsequently refined and tested in partnership with the Local Authority Catering Association (LACA) in England and Wales, and ASSIST FM in Scotland.

As a research-driven organisation specializing in public catering settings, our approach is always to match the latest science on carbon measurement to a deep understanding of client needs.
